Chapel Hill officials don’t like the way the northern edge of town is developing. Thus, a development moratorium was implemented last May. At tonight’s council meeting, the town manager will recommend not extending the moratorium, according to this story. Exactly what is it the council wants people to see when they enter Chapel Hill from I-40 at Weaver Dairy Road? A task force report is recommending “density, design and diversity.” Stay tuned for how that language is translated into nuts-and-bolts regulations. At least one very interested party is the developer of Triangle Orthopaedics. According to the story:

The moratorium faced opposition from developers whose projects were halted.

The town successfully defended a lawsuit brought in October by the C.A.I. Group VII that questioned the moratorium’s legality. The group is attempting to build Triangle Orthopaedics on Perkins Road.

The group filed a second challenge in late December, but no ruling on that challenge has been made.
