Well, well, well. On the heels of Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy’s comment that he “can’t envision supporting a budget that includes a tax increase this year,” comes word that the town council wants legislative authority to tax tickets on sports and entertainment events.
In fairness to Mr. Foy, a ticket tax would impact fewer residents than the property tax — which is what the mayor was referring to — but this is a good reminder that in a town such as Chapel Hill, elected officials never stop their search for ways to remove money from their constituents’ pockets.
If you’re a Chapel Hill fiscal conservative and you’re tired of officials being unresponsive to your views, join the Locke Foundation next Tuesday for the kickoff meeting of the Triangle Freedom Club. Details are here.
Hope to meet you there.
