Weird, weird story out of New Jersey where two golf caddies got in a dispute and one ended up dead.

The Clifton Journal reports:

Both caddies at the Upper Montclair Country Club, the friends “squared off” on Aug. 23 after arguing about a $10 loan, Detective Capt. Robert Rowan said.

“These two men had known each other for about 20 years,” said Rowan, adding they had been friends and had caddied together much of that time.

The argument escalated, and 49-year-old Kenneth Rivers, 49, of Charlotte, N.C., punched John Downey of Nutley in the jaw, police said.

Downey, also 49, “fell backwards to the ground after he was punched and hit his head on the pavement,” Rowan said.

Downey was immediately taken to the hospital. Rivers was charged with reckless manslaughter and booked into the Passaic County Jail under a $250,000 bond after Downey died last week while still in a local hospital.
