The only thing missing from the latest land-swapping plan for an Uptown baseball park is a Get Out of Jail Free card and a little metal Thimble-token thingie.

It is too early to tell if the plan would be a good deal for taxpayers. At least this new plan does not have public dollars flowing directly to build a baseball park. But it is hard to tell if the various public-for-private, private-for-public land swaps net out or are a massive give away. One sure test is if, once completed, the project generates new property tax revenue for the county and city general funds.

It is also interesting to note that once Wachovia and Spectrum Properties decide to roll the dice, everything on the Uptown property board is suddenly in play.
