This category of news story tends to strike me as pointless but humorous. WCNC-TV out of Charlotte caught N.C. Congressman Patrick McHenry, R-10th, creatively parked at the airport.

It’s elicited quite the controversy. In fact, one could call it “parkgate.”

“It’s not right,” said airport parker Robert Ehlers.

The SUV had to jump a curb to park. The location is directly across from the terminal.

NewsChannel 36 asked airport parker Allyson Eakin why she didn’t park there.

“Because I know better,” she said. “Because there’s a curb. Can’t park there. It’s common sense.”

The Gaston Gazette says an aide told them McHenry was running late for a flight, there weren’t any parking spots and he made a mistake.

Fellow parkers don’t buy the excuse.

“That’s a crock,” Ehlers said.

And they say they expect more from a leader.

“Leave earlier, I’m sorry you’re running late,” Eakin said.

OK, this is mildly interesting. But still — it must have been a really slow news day.
