Education Week is showcasing a new national organization to promote charter schools, the Charter School Leadership Council. Formed from the ashes of an earlier failed attempt known as the National Charter School Alliance, the new organization hopes to expand the charter movement and lend support to states that are facing fights bigger than they can handle alone.

Since the view of some (including me) is that all public schools should be charter schools, the organization is an interesting and timely new development. As is the roster of who’s in, and who’s opting out, of the new organization.

Chester Finn and Howard Fuller, both of whom left the controversy-ridden Education Leaders Council, are key players in the new organization. The Center for Education Reform, whose main focus is charter schools, is opting not to lend its support. CER president Jeanne Allen is said to be waiting to see if the council will be effective.
