The N.C. Court of Appeals today upheld most of a ruling requiring Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools to hand over as much as $1.3 million to five charter schools that had sued the district school system.

The exact amount of the award is unclear, since the court ruled that Charlotte-Mecklenburg could withhold textbook funds. But a unanimous three-judge panel rejected all other arguments the public school system made about withholding money from reserve fund balances, Hurricane Katrina relief funds, sales tax reimbursements, and other sources.
