From today’s Wall Street Journal:

A 61-year-old grandmother was shot in the back as she ran for cover. The bullet ripped through her aorta, kidney and stomach. She later bled to death in the emergency room. An opposition congressman was shot in the shoulder and remains in critical care. Eight others suffered severe gunshot wounds. Hilda Mendoza Denham, a British subject visiting Caracas for her mother’s 80th birthday, was shot at close range with hollow-point bullets from a high-caliber pistol. She now lies sedated in a hospital bed after a long and complicated operation. She is my mother.

I spoke with her minutes before the doctors cut open her wounds. She looked at me, frightened and traumatized, and sobbed: “I was sure they were going to kill me, they just kept shooting at me.”

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention to events in Venezuela, here’s a brief recap:

? Citizens tried to oust a Marxist dictator democratically. The futility of the effort should be obvious: Marxist dictators are never ousted democratically ? even if they come to power democratically. Marxists view democracy as they view free speech: It ends as soon as it serves their needs.

? Even though exit polls showed an overwhelming majority (some who had waited in line for upwards of 10 hours to vote) in favor of Chavez’s ouster, the dictator miraculously “won” in a landslide.

? Jimmy Carter, soiling the world stage once again by being the tyrant’s lickspittle, gave the election “results” his full y’all of approval.

? People were shot at random.

? And a Florida polling company using ? take note of this, America ? electronic voting turned out to be in Chavez’s pocket and helped to perpetrate the fraud.
