Having remediated concerns about the company contracted to assist with revals, Cherokee County intends to complete assessments by December 31.

“Unfortunately, property taxes are regressive in nature and many taxpayers are currently being burdened by tax values that are largely erroneous and inconsistent based upon the timing and implementation of the previous revaluation in 2008,” [Tim Cain, president of the assessment company] said.

Delays had been introduced because many properties had assessments so far from fair they were referred to as “erroneous.” It is in the best interest of the county to avoid appeals, and if Cain wants to stay in business, he will want to arrive at fair values as well. Many property owners are assessed as paying too much for their holdings now.
