Here’s where we are headed with a $9 billion transit plan we cannot afford. The only question is when:

State lawmakers rejected a multimillion-dollar bailout of the Chicago region’s transit agencies Tuesday… The region’s people movers say they need $240 million to cover operating deficits and millions more to upgrade and expand the system. They need it by Sept. 16, or, on the morning of the 17th, 400 fewer CTA buses will be running and other service cuts along with fare hikes will be implemented across the CTA, Pace and Metra.

Illinois lawmakers were being asked to hike the…sales tax in order to pay for the system. And don’t forget, that Charlotte’s traffic congestion is headed toward Chicago-like levels given our lack of road-building.

But, hey, everything is fine. If we just keep on the current path, everything will be fine. Just keep spending money and building trains.
