McDonald’s is going after Chik-fil-A with its very own chicken sandwich with pickle chips, a Chil-fil-A hallmark. Mickey D’s is rolling out the new sammich across the Southeast:

McDonald’s is conducting an 18-month test of the sandwich and a breakfast chicken biscuit in 650 restaurants in the Southeast, backing it with $20 million in equipment, plus undisclosed marketing expenses. It’s one of the biggest tests the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company has run on a franchisee-developed product since the Egg McMuffin in 1973. With no condiments except pickles, the sandwich is a natural for the drive-through, which accounts for up to 70 percent of McDonald’s business.

Ah, the much-desired low-condiment condition. I had no idea that was so important in the fast food biz. Does this also mean that McDonald’s will start closing on Sunday and stop including crappy movie tie-in toys in their Happy Meals?
