News & Observer managing editor John Drescher doesn’t like it when bloggers blog anonymously. Here’s what he said at Friday’s panel at Duke:

“My only real reservation is you really ought to have to identify yourself.”

He got some jabs in the blogosphere for that remark, but his view just got some strong support. The Chinese communist government has decided to ban anonymous blogging. We’re not saying Chinese leaders got their idea from Drescher, but Huang Chenqing of the Internet Society of China certainly shares Drescher’s view:

“We suggest, in a recent report submitted to the ministry, that a real name system be implemented in China’s blog industry,”
