The House decides that buses are a better use for sales tax revenue than roads, maintenance, and bridges.

The House considers the final vote on House Bill 148, “Congestion Relief/intermodal Transport Fund,” which authorizes local governments to raise the sales tax. They must spend all the revenue on trains, buses, and public transportation.?

The bill sponsor, Rep. Becky Carney, D-Mecklenburg, says the Senate made a small change that has to do with train stations around public housing.? Rep. Skip Stam, R-Wake, will vote no because the sales tax was just raised in the budget, and they don’t need to continue to increase it.

The bill passes 74-40 and trucks over? to the governor for her signature.
