Ah, don’t you just love when the city of Charlotte mucks about in “economic development” schemes?

Back in 2004 the city got itself on the hook for $2.2m. to help pay for the “public infrastructure” associated with the EpiCenter Uptown who-ha. It was to be paid when the project was completed. The project is not yet completed — a condo component is up in the air, natch — but the developer Afshin Ghazi needs to start paying back his construction debt. As a result, the city will advance Ghazi $550,000 now.

The next time you interface with city government, see if they are so willing to re-work the rules for you.
