Greensboro City Manager Denise Turner Roth has deemed International Civil Rights Museum audits “acceptable,” clearing the way for the museum to start taking on a $1.5 million loan the City Council approved a few weeks back.

What ‘acceptable’ means isn’t exactly clear, especially since Roth earlier this week established herself as a master of the understatement following the announcement that the city locked up Police Chief Ken Miller for a while with a $27k raise.

Miller’s separation agreement was a factor, as was Mayor Robbie Perkins’ lobbying, citing a decline in violent crime. Roth also said she wanted to keep Miller, but added “what it came down to for me is we need a police chief either way.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
