The Economist devotes its cover to the newspaper industry.
Its judgement is that the national conversation of newspapers has gone
international and now has more voices thanks to the internet and blogs,
but top-rank newspapers like the Wall Street Journal and, yes, even the New York Times will likely continue to exist. One interesting bit is the citation of a Carnegie Corporation report that, as the Economist puts it, expects “some high-quality journalism will also be backed by non-profit organisations.” Carolina Journal stands in good company.
