From Sen. Phil Berger’s office:

Clary Will Chair Program Evaluation Committee

Raleigh, N.C. ? Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced today that Senator Debbie Clary (R-Cleveland) will chair the Senate Program Evaluation Committee. The Program Evaluation Committee will be tasked with overseeing state government programs and evaluating their effectiveness.

Sen. Berger said, ?State government is overdue for a thoughtful, careful re-examination of its programs and a re-evaluation to determine if the public is being served in the most effective, efficient way possible. Senator Clary is the right person to lead these efforts.?

?It is critical that we streamline and modernize state government to better fit the needs of the people of North Carolina and give taxpayers a better return on their investment. We will work to see that all of state government is being run wisely and efficiently,? said Sen. Clary, ?Information technology and telecommunications systems policy are two quick examples of functions within each department of government that are long overdue for a complete review. I envision the committee being an arm of the Government Performance Audit Commission and making it a priority to review duplications and overlapping services within government. Our goal will be to streamline programs for the purpose of achieving consistent and clear objectives which in turn will reduce the size and scope of government.?
