The controversial development at Lawndale and Cornwallis, from Walgreen’s point of view.

I knew there had to be a good reason why drugstores cluster together. And if walkability is the city’s true goal, clustering makes sense, in order to promote walkability for as many Old Irving Park residents as possible. I realize “auto aisle” on Wendover isn’t the best example in that regard, but look at downtown, where restaurants and bars continue to cluster in order to promote walkability. They essentially offer the same product, food and beverage, right?

No doubt Lawndale and Cornwallis is a mess, and I don’t see how it can be fixed considering the fact that the intersection is wedged in by the rail line running down Battleground. It will be interesting to see what type of traffic plan the developer comes up with.
