This is an interesting development. Seems CMPD got the wrong man last fall when they arrested Terrick Lumpkin and charged him with the murder of Joel Vazquez at an apartment complex off of Rea Road. County prosecutors have dropped charges against Lumpkin citing a lack of evidence.

In fact, reading the prosecutors’ rundown of the evidence it is difficult to see why CMPD ever moved on Lumpkin to begin with — another victim in the shooting who survived failed to ID him in a CMPD photo line-up several days before Lumpkin was cornered by police in a Huntersville motel.

Take it a step further and if I’m on city council or Mac McCarley I’m hoping against hope Lumpkin does not turn around file a wrongful arrest suit against the city. There is a big difference between giving Rodney Monroe a free hand to fight crime and giving him zero civilian oversight. You tell me which one we are closer to right now.
