CMS is stumbling again.
This time it is school buses. CMS does not have enough drivers for afternoon routes and the district is warning that some kids may have to stay at school longer while buses run to the neighborhoods and back.
I had heard last week that CMS was having major problems getting drivers and was counting on supervisors and basically anyone who could drive a bus to help make the first few weeks work. But this sounds even worse than that.
And let’s see, who gets hurt by CMS’ inability to plan — besides the kids, the kids always get hurt, this time literally left behind. The teachers. Teachers who will have to supervise kids — babysit them — for what? an extra half-hour to an hour.
Unreal. Maybe we coulda used some of the $9 million spent on “learning communities” to hire some damn bus drivers. And CMS wonders why people doubt its ability to spend $500 million in bond money wisely.
Bonus Observation: Another CMS employee accused of a sex crime. A special needs teacher’s assistant at Providence High has been charged with with sexual battery, assault on a female, and assault on a handicapped person.
Update: The same teacher was arrested in January by CMPD for driving with a revoked license.
