Left unsaid with the “restructuring” of five chronically underperforming middle schools, where do the “restructured” teachers land? Are they let go? Or do they land elsewhere in the system, at new schools?

It also seems the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is being counted on to work miracles. Teachers tell me it is fine for middle-of-the-pack students, it helps them maybe set higher goals for themselves, pull up into college — especially community college — eligibility from an aimless path. However, the problem at these five schools is far too many kids far below grade level. They need intensive remedial work, they do not yet have the skill set with which to double-down on the effort.

Yet from AVID’s own Web site, “AVID isn’t a remedial program.”

Bravo, CMS. You’ve done it again.

Bonus Observation: Cost? Does this even come up any more?
