Today, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) folks released results of the Trial Urban District Assessment (TUDA) in fourth- and eighth-grade mathematics and reading. Twenty-one urban districts participated this year. Charlotte-Mecklenburg (CMS) was the only district representative from North Carolina.
CMS increased their average eighth-grade math score by four points. They also increased their average fourth- and eighth-grade reading scores, but neither were statistically significant. Their average fourth-grade math score was unchanged.
Overall, CMS exceeded the national average score in fourth-grade math and reading and eighth-grade math. The district’s eighth-grade reading score was not significantly different than the national average.
