As CMS kicks off another year today, check Terry Stoops on the idea of year-round schools.

The key starting point is that it needs to be a parental choice to switch to such a calendar, not imposed from on-high by the EdShed. Also, CMS needs to be much clearer on how it is that shuttering schools for an entire year only saves hundreds of thousands of dollars — and by the implication of CMS brass, makes closures not a serious budget solution — but shifting the school year around by a few weeks holds the promise of great savings.
