Was I the only one who caught this? CMUD telling us that high water bills are perfectly normal? To wit:

Ongoing media coverage continues to prompt higher than normal bill inquiries and concerns. …To date, Utilities (sic) staff has not detected any unexpected trends or system-wide problems in its investigations.

Understand what this means. CMUD is saying that an increase in CMUD bills of 40, 60, or 75 percent in recent years is not unexpected — at least by CMUD. I doubt county residents feel the same way.

What I cannot wrap my head around — and nor can anyone else I mention this to — is that monthly CMUD bills for city homeowners now routinely rival if not surpass the amount we pay in Charlotte city property taxes each month. Is that what city council intended?
