This is a first —- Rep. Howard Coble will face a challenger in the 2010 Republican primary:

Local business manager Cathy Brewer Hinson plans to challenge Rep. Howard Coble, R-6th, in the GOP primary next year, becoming the first Republican to mount a primary challenge to Coble since he won the seat 25 years ago.

Hinson, who has a background in business and education, was scheduled to announce her congressional bid during an event in her native High Point Thursday night. Hinson told The High Point Enterprise earlier this week that she respects Coble, but believes it’s time for a change in representation.

“I am not so naive as to think these things can happen overnight, but I have a vision of where I believe the people would like to see their country go,” said Hinson, the manager of the Union Square furniture showroom building. “I am announcing early for name recognition purposes. I have the education and business experience to qualify me to be a representative. We are experiencing a two-tier system – the ‘elitist’ attitude of the majority of Congress, and the people of the United States.”

At first glance it looks like she’s running to the right. Should be interesting.

Update: Coble already has half a million in his campaign account.
