Carolina Journal Executive Editor Don Carrington recently detailed some unusual travel patterns involving Gov. Mike Easley’s flights on taxpayer-owned aircraft. Carrington’s work attracted attention in a Fayetteville Observer editorial after another media outlet exposed this week the cost of Easley’s recent trip to Italy. The governor’s European jaunt was also a topic of conversation this morning on Charlotte’s WDYT Radio, as Meck Deck blogger Jeff Taylor covered that issue, along with Charlotte-area water main breaks and other items he’s been monitoring. Easley’s Italian adventure also prompted WTVD Television to seek comment from John Locke Foundation President John Hood. Speaking of Hood, his comments in a McClatchy News story about the continuing impact of political labels earned more media attention, this time in the Waterbury (Conn.) Republican-American. Hood welcomed JLF Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray as a guest panelist this week on N.C. SPIN. Hood and Gray also participated in a mock presentation of N.C. SPIN for the 4-H Citizenship Focus program. About 75 4-H students and staffers heard debate about school uniforms, tax credits for special needs, Wake Forest University’s decision to drop its SAT requirement, and water management.
