This brings to mind one of my favorite quotations. Back in the 50s, at the height of McCarthyism, the redoubtable libertarian Frank Chodorov (among his books: Income Tax — The Root of All Evil) said, “If you’re worried about communists in government jobs, get rid of the government jobs.” Here, the paraphrase would be, “If you’re worried about lobbyists peddling government influence, get rid of the government influence.”
