Among elected officials and education folk, there is growing support for raising the maximum compulsory age from 16 to 18. The change would supposedly reduce the dropout rate. Yet, states with a maximum compulsory attendance age of 18 do not necessarily have a lower dropout rate.
Given the host of factors involved in student retention, I would be suspicious of anyone who attempts to draw a direct correlation between attendance age and dropouts.
