Yesterday, WPEK’s on-air personality Lesley Groetsch criticized Tea Baggers as “not understanding how government works” and “probably never having taken a civics course in their lives.” In response, I will attempt to explain how the federal government has worked over the last year.

Apparently by design, government passed regulations and assessments to marginalize otherwise successful businesses. It then printed a lot of money to give to the businesses on condition that the businesses pay it back with interest, appoint government cronies to their boards of directors, or both. All the while, accepting money from the government deprived private-sector entities from trading to make each other profitable. Government then pointed to the mess, created by the ineptitude of cronies managing by remote-control and lack of expertise, and called it proof positive businesses need more government regulation.
