NC delegates took the night off last night since the GOP convention evening session was canceled due to Hurricane Gustav. Most went out in groups to eat at nearby restaurants. Some delegates today are helping prepare care packages to be sent to the Gulf Coast. Bob Crumley, our GOP candidate for Attorney General, is hosting a delegate luncheon today.

The NC delegation has a good spot on the convention floor. During yesterday’s opening session, there were many photographers and cameramen photographing the Louisiana delegation next to us and asking La. delegates about the hurricane. Reporters outnumber delegates here by about 4 to 1.

The press is obsessed with the story about Gov. Palin’s teenage daughter being pregnant. The delegates themselves think the story is not relevant and view it as a press feeding frenzy. Enthusiasm for Gov. Palin, because of her conservative record and strong leadership record, remains strong in the NC delegation and elsewhere from what I can see. We are looking forward to hearing directly from her Wednesday night.
