David Frum says on the Web site New Majority that Rush Limbaugh is the Second Coming of the John Birch Society because a) Limbaugh says Obama wants to let terrorists go on our streets and 2) that his domestic policy is harming America. How can anyone argue that these comments are not accurate?

Thinking that Obama is a leftist radical bent on destroying capitalism is no longer a fringe notion. It’s rapidly becoming mainstream. And after Obama’s international tour, in which he apologized practically for the existence of the United States, the growing concern about his commitment to our ideals is not unfounded.

The destruction of this country is not going to come from those who explicitly state their intent. It will come via cool, smooth-talking politician with charmisma who do audacious things so unbelievable that people can’t believe what is happening around them. Not wanting to seem like crackpots by criticizing what they clearly see, many people stay silent about the outrages. Sort of like those in the New Majority.

UPDATE: More evidence that Frum is dead wrong:

However, what’s most ridiculous about Frum’s statement is his belief that “no prominent liberal figure” ever accused the Bush administration of wanting to harm America. To that statement, I offer the following rebuttal, in quote form:

To begin with, from its earliest days in power, this administration sought to radically destroy the foreign policy consensus that had guided America since the end of World War II.

Wow. What sort of fringe nutjob would accuse the Bush administration of actively seeking to destroy our foreign policy consensus?

Um, former Vice President Al Gore, on May 26, 2004.
