On June 28, 2019, Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed the state budget, and the top reason he gave for doing so was that it included “corporate tax breaks.”

Since then, Cooper has pledged over one and a half billion dollars in tax incentives giveaways to fewer than 100 corporations.

The total count — summing up his announcements from the second half of 2019, all of 2020, and so far in 2021 — is $1,522,891,600 in state money pledged to 97 corporations.
