The local anarchist café is going underground. Not really. They just need a place where they can pursue their goals better without the restrictions of things like insufficient parking downtown.

One thing the label people don’t understand is that while they accuse me of being an anarchist, they don’t think I’m cool enough to hang with them. That allowed me, back in the day of wannabe investigative reporting, a great place in the cafe for off-the-record discussions. Besides, I liked a lot of the kids. Yes, there was much senseless radicalism in their ways, but some of them were among the most intelligent people I’ve known, and we shared more in our views of public policy than the more prejudiced among them were willing to concede.

Anyhoo, the group will host a community meeting February 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the old Firestorm Café, behind the Purple Monk, to collect feedback on their “anti-oppression” policy. This could be totally weirded out, but it at least sounds like an attempt to move “the man” in a good direction.
