It occurs to me that another famous individual in history who also wanted to remake his country so it would conform to his notions was Mao. Among Mao’s great contributions was his contribution to agriculture. He was not a farmer, but just knew that the Chinese weren’t farming in the best way, so he ordered them to employ his techniques in 1958. Famine resulted. But not for Mao.
