The first John Locke Foundation Shaftesbury Society meeting of 2010 featured an overview of the history of conflict in Afghanistan, including ongoing American efforts to secure piece in that country.

U.S. Army First Sgt. HansMarc Hurd offered the history lesson. Hurd also explained why he believes counterinsurgency efforts offer the only viable means of winning the current conflict. In the video clip below, Hurd outlines some key challenges.
