This consisted of pouring over reams of mind-numbing financial records, parsing official statements for hidden clues, listening politely to wild rumors, and filing FOIA requests that you thought maybe had a chance of eliciting an actual response.
No wonder I’ve been having flashbacks as Mecklenburg County’s DSS saga has played out over these past few months. Here’s the latest chapter, an investigation so secret that the county cannot even tell the public who is conducting it.
Let me speculate what this is really about: The county does not want to disclose who is doing the investigating lest DSS whistleblowers come out of the woodwork.
