As we are constantly given COVID-19 numbers without context, I’m reminded of H.L. Mencken‘s line about politics aiming “to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety).”
So here are some recent COVID-19 trends from the available data for North Carolina.
Hospitalizations as a percentage of active cases has flatlined:
The proportion of tests that are positive remains flat:
Our death rate continues to decline:
And as a reminder from yesterday, our record-high hospitalizations are not anywhere close to what health professionals and state policymakers feared back in March. Note: the first graph is taken from the bottom right corner of the second graph.
