TE Connectivity announced gobs of layoffs at its plants in the midstate earlier this year. Greensboro alone was expected to lose well over 600 jobs. Layoffs were described as occurring in waves in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Oregon. The good news is the company is going to create jobs in Buncombe County. The Asheville-Buncombe EDC is taking credit, so one might assume the taxpayers are gifting TE somehow. Going strictly by numbers, one would not expect TE Connectivity to be Project X, as the former is supposed to invest $1.68 million in the economy and create 40 jobs; the latter, $1.26 million and at least 52 jobs.
