The Guilford County Board of Education is still haggling over the 2010-2011 budget. Part of last night’s budget discussion was an effort by board members Paul Daniels and Darlene Garrett to eliminate the chief administrative officer position, formerly held by Durham superintendent Eric Becoats. As Brian Ewing reports here, “there were lots of questions about what exactly Becoats was doing.”

In the end, the board voted 7-2 —- with Daniels and Garrett voting ‘no’ —- to approve Superintendent Mo Green’s “recommendation to reorganize the chief administrative office by reclassifying the chief administrative officer position to a lower-paid executive director and eliminating the second-highest-paid post.”
