The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney Ron Moore have launched a campaign to reduce food stamp fraud. Last year, 62 cases of fraud, claiming an average of $4270, were “identified.” Moore says people are using food stamps to barter for other stuff, like drugs.

“It wasn’t too long ago that we had gone to a hotel where some drug people were involved, and there were a number of EBT cards found in the room,” Moore said.
