Davidson County commissioners got the pitch from PART executive director Brent McKinney and High Point Mayor Becky Smothers for $170,000 to help close the transit authority’s million-dollar budget deficit.

Sounds like commissioners were reasonably skeptical —– Fred McClure said “(v)ery seldom do I hear a conversation about how we’re going to control costs — all the conversation is we need more money.”

It’s now pay to ride with PART. If commissioners don’t pay up, both Davidson routes will be dropped. For what it’s worth, PART’s running a $140k deficit on those routes.
