Wow. I watched the first half and the start of the second last night and didn’t think that Davidson was in danger against College of Charleston. The Wildcats were not playing or shooting particularly well, but the Cougars were playing even worse. And after two straight Tony White Jr. turnovers with Davidson up 31-24, I bailed.

Stupid me.

Three minutes later a White Jr. jumper, for two of his team-high 17 points, gave CofC the lead. They gave the lead back on a Steph Curry layup but then took control the game, throttling the Wildcats the rest of the way and making Curry looking very ordinary, careless even.

My problem with Davidson all year long is that they are far too sloppy with offensive possessions, especially in low-scoring affairs like the one last night. If it wasn’t and outright turnover, it was missed FTs, or a hasty 3-point bomb. A very dangerous way to play.

As a result, one of college basketball’s biggest names may not be going to the Big Dance next week.
