Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, caused a stir in recent days by implying that some level of Islamic Shari’a law in the UK was unavoidable. Now he’s reaping a bit of a whirlwind:

In an astonishing attack, one senior Church of England clergyman demanded Dr Rowan Williams step down immediately and branded him “gullible”.

The figure, identified only as a long-standing member of the Church’s governing body the General Synod, told The Times that many people had now lost confidence in the Archbishop.

I don’t know why any attack would be considered astonishing, considering the bonehead things this guy has said as head of the Church of England.

The clergyman added:

“I am just so shocked, and cannot believe a man of his intelligence could be so gullible,” he said.

Earth to clergyman: He’s a liberal. Gullibility in the face of terror is something they do best.

Too bad his seeming role model is this guy, instead of this guy.
