Former state Rep. Michael Decker has been sentenced to four years in prison and fined $50,000 by U.S. District Court Judge James Dever. Given what Judge Dever termed an “epic betrayal” of public trust, I think double that time would’ve been closer to complete justice, but we have to start somewhere on the road back to honest and effective government.
Most interesting is the order that Decker report to prison in 45 days, which gives him time to testify at Jim Black’s sentencing on May 14th. Oh, what an interesting couple of weeks it is going to be up in Raleigh.
Prosecutors are signaling to Jim Black that he has scant days left to spill everything he knows about the Down East kleptocracy he so faithfully served.
Decisions, decisions.
