The City of Asheville is involved in green demolition. In 2007, the state gave the city funds to purchase buildings destroyed in the aftermath of hurricanes in 2004. Getting the state involved in the real estate business is viewed as a good use of tax dollars because asphalt and concrete worsen flood conditions. It is hoped the city will get more funds, even though it is running a deficit, to build a greenway to connect the golf course and an existing greenway.
