In response to Michael’s question, let me take a shot at it, since I wrote about the subject yesterday. I would say that skank is a female’s presentation of herself as a tawdry sexual object through emphasizing to the point of absurdity her sexual attributes, often with the adoption of a flippant or latently hostile attitude.
Think slutty with a smattering of grime and cigarette ash.
As definitions go, that’s about as unworkable as the next one, but it captures a key feature of “child skank” (a.k.a. prostitot or eleventeen ho) ? i.e., sexualizing a six-year-old is absurd in and of itself (not to mention that it is dangerous to the child, both in teaching her that’s an acceptable self-value for her to adopt, and in drawing the gaze of sexual predators).
Alas, examples of skank abound in popular culture. I was going to provide a few examples: Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Anna Nicole Smith, Christina Aguilerra, … but the list expanded exponentially and I didn’t want to task myself with selecting the best examples of skank. Yecch. I’ll just remind you of the singularly difficult time I had in trying to give a young girl some American pop music by a female vocalist who was “non-slutty.”
