After reading the 34-page version of the RMA report posted yesterday on Greensboro 101, I couldn’t understand they city’s stubborn refusal to release the report because it makes a very straightforward case: David Wray didn’t follow SOP when investigating James Hinson. And when you don’t follow SOP while working for any government entity, you stand a good chance of losing your job.

Now Mitch Johnson says some revelations in the report have been proven wrong. Great.

When reading the report, however, red flags were raised when it proclaimed truth and clarity instead of letting the reader determine it for himself. Here’s an example:

The reason for the tracker on Hinson’s vehicle is clear. It had nothing to do with any type of multi-agency investigation into organized crime. It was another in a series of attempts by the Special Intelligence Division of the Greensboro Police Department and the Office of the Chief of Police to connect Lieutenant Hinson to some sort of criminal activity, specifically prostitution.

When government entities commission reports, they’re just not paying for the report. They’re paying for the results.

This is a mess with no end in sight. No one is going to come out of this looking good.
