So much for the recent focus on the dangers of driving while impaired. Here we have an DWI incident in Burlington that, by some miracle, didn’t kill anyone. I’ll let the facts speak for themselves:
Sherril Garner of 3931 Mebane Oaks Road was driving a 1986 BMW east on I-40 at about 2:30 a.m. when she lost control of the car, ran off the road to the right, collided with a tree and overturned, said Trooper James Chinnici of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Garner’s two children, 6-year-old Conasia Garner and 5-year-old Charles Wright, were in the backseat along with Garner’s 15-year-old brother, Jerry Gant of Greensboro. Garner’s 13-year-old goddaughter, Raven Patterson of Bluefield, W.Va., was in the front passenger seat. No one in the car was wearing a seatbelt, and the two younger children were not in child safety seats, Chinnici said.
