Rep. Brad Miller made a few comments on Iraq during a meeting with students in Rockingham County:
The congressman’s biggest concern is Iraq turning into a modern-day Sudan. Just a generation ago, a middle class thrived, oil and water was plentiful and Baghdad was home to mixed neighborhoods of Sunni and Shia Muslims.
“That’s no longer the case. Neighborhoods in Baghdad that were mixed are being cleansed, they’re either all Sunni or all Shia,” Miller said. “And our great fear is that whatever we do, whether we stay there for 10 minutes or 10 years, that Iraq is simply going to be in a civil war that might last as long as the Lebanese civil war.”
You have to wonder about Miller’s definition of a generation, considering the fact that many define a generation as 25 years and it just so happens that Saddam Hussein took control of Iraq 25 years ago. Surely Miller isn’t suffering from Michael Moore delusions that pre-war Iraq was a happy and peaceful place.
