The City of Lexington will place on 90-day hold on all hirings and postpone purchases of large capital projects in an effort to trim its budget.
Unfortunately the Lexington Dispatch article doesn’t define ‘large capital projects.’ Such definition was the sticking point in Greensboro City Council member Mike Barber’s failed motion that the city hold off on major land purchases (such as the Canada Dry property and the Coliseum Inn) for several months. City staff persuaded Barber to amend his motion to exclude land related to necessary infrastructure, which is reasonable. That said, though, Barber’s friendly adversary Robbie Perkins chimed in that there was no telling where Barber’s motion would go.
I realize Lexington and Greensboro, to say the least, are two very different cities, but it would have been interesting to see their definition of ‘large capital projects.’
